One of the most widely known of the complementary healing therapies, acupuncture has been practiced in China for thousands of years and is becoming increasingly popular in the West.Part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine health system, acupuncture is a means of regulating the 'life force' that is thought to flow through the body by the insertion of fine needles into carefully selected points on the body. As well as to promote general good health and well-being, acupuncture is used to treat a number of specific conditions. Many Western doctors now practise a form of it.
Acupunture involves the insertion of fine sterilized needles into the body at hundreds of points along the energy channels. The needles are inserted at various points, according to the illness, and are left in place for a period of time before being pulled out.Treatment courses also vary in length, according to the patients condition.
