Kill the drill Samui

Stop the drill in Koh Samui

Any holiday makers in the region of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao or in the Surrathani province or any region of Thailand are invited to please join the protest along with local residents and environmentalists on July 31.

‘Kill the Drill’ protest is against the Thai company Nucoastal, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK publicly listed Coastal Energy Company (CEO), that are trying to carry out exploration and drilling about 42km (26 mi) off the resort Island of Koh Samui.

Organized by the Siam Gulf Preservation Network Group (SGPNG), those opposed to the oil exploration concession are hoping more than 30,000 people will link hands in a human chain along Koh Samui’s 52km-long (32 mi) ring-road to send a message to the government that visitors and residents alike are opposed to the oil exploration and drilling.

Opposition to the proposed oil drilling program is gaining momentum, with industry groups such as the Tourism Association of Koh Samui, the Thai Hotels Association (Southern Chapter, East Coast – Samui), the Tourism Association of Koh Pha-Ngan and Koh Tao, the Green Island foundation and various other local community groups represented.

So please join this protest on July 31st and put a stop the the drill.. Please see the Facebook event
