Phuket
One of Thailand’s largest islands is Phuket. Phuket is set in an idyllic location, surrounded by crystal clear, emerald green waters of the Adaman sea on Thailand’s Indian Ocean coastline and 862 kilometers south of Bangkok .A short 70 minutes flight from the island will take you to the country’s main capital city.
The word Phuket-in earlier times was believed to have come from the Malayan word Bukit, which translates to “Mountain” but this has been recently proven wrong- Phuket is actually a Thai word meaning mountain (phu) of jewel (ket).
Formerly known as Ko (island) Thalang, and famous for its rich tin shores, from where it became wealthy is better known today as a tourists paradise. Phuket is blessed with magnificent bays, hidden coves, powdery, palm-fringed white sandy beaches, fantastic underwater scenery, some of the finest hotels,a calming and tropical atmosphere, extremely hospitable people, exquisite Thai cuisine and superb seafood. The fresh seafood, such as prawns, lobster and fresh fish of the day are plentiful.
Tropical, lush green, mountainous forests with temples, Buddhist statues, turquoise seas with underwater coral reefs and tropical sunshine are all in abundance. Plenty of sports activities are available such as, diving, rock climbing, hiking, horse riding and water sports. Phuket- Pearl of the south-encourages many travelers to visit her again and again.
